All portable heaters pose potential risks, particularly fire hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has provided the following safety tips:

  • Do not leave portable heaters on while sleeping.
  • Never leave heaters running unattended in confined spaces to prevent hyperthermia hazards.
  • Always place heaters on a stable, level surface to avoid tipping over.
  • Maintain a minimum 3-foot clearance between heaters and flammable items such as beds, clothes, curtains, papers, and sofas.
  • Plug electric heaters directly into wall outlets, avoiding power strips and never running cords under rugs or carpets.
  • Ensure children and pets are kept away from portable heaters.
